NEW ALBUM – OUT NOW (Nov. 13 2015)
Civilisation Records / Heptown Records / Pike RecordsThe Bristles new album Last Days of Capitalism is a review of the past two years’ events ending up in the current both economic and political crisis. The economic crisis has led to war, and the political crisis consists of the fascism it brought. Racism and chauvinism are now norm.
Other topics covered are the West’s mass consumption, men’s global war on women, the Left’s failure, and multinational companies grip on people. Then there are some more traditional working-class songs about work buyers reprimands and neglecting ones job for the last time.
Musically it follows the frustration over the state of affairs. It’s fast, hard, simple and crude. There are no false notes, it’s not out of tune, no-one’s playing anything wrong, although it may appear so, it’s exactly the way it’s supposed to be.

The Don Darlings hailed sound has been associated with the genre called Dark Southern Americana, where Sergio Leone and Quentin Tarantino bloody knuckles over direction while Waits and Cave complete the soundtrack. Text and music become intertwined and every song proposes the possibility of a new cinematic experience.

INFO ABOUT THE ALBUM
11 rough folk numbers rooted in the country and blues music make up All My Exes’s second studio album ’From the Hen House’. The music ranges from thoughtful notes to energetic dance tunes. ‘From the Hen House’ is written, recorded and produced by the band themselves, and it has all come into existence in an old bunker from the Second World War.
Find a farm, catch a hen, scatter flour out over it and throw it up into the air – then you have the cover. Mix guitar, drums, banjo and organ and add Steffen Christensen’s rough vocal – then you have the music. Welcome to ’From the Hen House’!
All My Exes is ready with 11 new mucky folk numbers rooted in the country and blues music. Festive dance tunes along with more calm numbers are served on the band’s second studio album ’From the Hen House’. The notes from the banjo make it difficult to keep still.
The creator and front man of the band, Steffen Christensen, is born and bred in Southern Jutland, for which reason Tønder Festival has been a crucial part of his musical upbringing. This is obvious from All My Exes’s unmistakable folk sound. Like their debut album, ’From the Hen House’ is written, recorded and produced by the band themselves in their own studio, a bunker from the Second World War. In this setting, the unique sound of All My Exes has been built.
Once again All My Exes team up with some of the best blues and folk musicians in Denmark, Ronni Boysen, J.Tex and Lasse Herbst.
A concert with All My Exes is always worth a visit. Since their debut album “From Nashville to El Paso” in 2013, the band has been giving tons of concerts around Denmark. Festivals and well-established venues as well as private living rooms, barns and gardens have set the scene. Actually, intimate concerts have almost become the band’s trademark.
The band is composed of guitarist and backing vocalist Mikkel M. Christensen, drummer Lars Andersen, bassist Mads Bay, and lead singer Steffen Christensen also playing banjo and dobro guitar.

J.Tex & The Volunteers – Old Ways vs New Days out Jan 30.
See the brand new video “Ship Coming In” from the album
This is the fifth album from one of Denmark’s most interesting and coolest artists, the album takes the listener on a heart felt and charming journey through a ever changing soundscape of violins, bass clarinet, vocals and of course his brilliant guitar and banjo work.
The album focuses on J.Tex’s vast experiences, but at the same time opening up his curiosity to new musical ideas, this is the main theme to ‘Old Ways vs New Days’.
It has taken many trips across the sea to record the album, from his home in Copenhagen to the Heptown family studio in Lund, Sweden. Here J Tex and his fellow musicians The Volunteers recorded the new album, together with the very skillful sound engineer Carl Granberg. Experimenting with new sound ideas and new instrumentation techniques, often creating an almost cinematic sound score.
The final result is ten finely crafted songs, recorded together with guest musician Bebe Risenfors (who played with Tom Waits), and of course the Volunteers, Tue Lund Christensen on bass and Jason Bedard on drums.
J.Tex was born in Detroit and raised in Denmark, he feels quite at home in both in the United States, where he has many musical collaborators, and in Copenhagen, where he lives today.
He is very much part of the Southern Swedish rock’n'roll scene, where a love of music, vintage American cars, old motorcycles, vintage clothing and the shine of well greased hair is very much a way of life.
The best of USA, Denmark and Sweden come together on this, the coolest album release this winter!
”A strange highly original, cleverly constructed and
loose take on the genre.”
- Mike Morrison
”Heptown has a truly impressive feel for roots and
rockabilly music and the know how to pick their band.
J.Tex & The Volunteers is another great Heptown act.”
- Buster Fayte
”At times it’s like Seasick Steve meets Cab Calloway, others it’s more Tom Waits meets
Maurice Chevalier. It’s certainly different, but most importantly, it’s wonderful.”
- Music People
